Star Naming Disclaimer

An honest description of what a Meridian Celestial Registry registration is — and what it is not.

Symbolic naming only

Meridian Celestial Registry provides symbolic star naming registrations maintained in its independent private database. These names are commemorative and are not official astronomical designations recognized by the International Astronomical Union.

Meridian Celestial Registry does not sell, transfer or confer any ownership of a star, and nothing in our certificates or registry records grants property rights of any kind.

No affiliation

Meridian Celestial Registry is an independent private business. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government, space agency, observatory, university or the International Astronomical Union.

Astronomical data

Star names, Bayer designations, coordinates, magnitudes, spectral types and distances are taken from published catalogue data (including the Yale Bright Star Catalogue and Hipparcos-derived catalogues) and are presented as recorded. Coordinates are J2000 equatorial positions.

Charts and visualisations

Position charts plot a star's catalogued coordinates on the equatorial grid. They are not photographs, and they are not a simulation of what you would see through a telescope. We do not present any visualisation as an official sky survey image.
